Abstract

Background and purpose: Marital satisfaction is one of the most important indicators of family and community health, and identifying factors affecting it is of particular importance. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between perfectionism and psychological toughness with marital satisfaction in married students.
Method: This research was a descriptive-correlation type. The statistical population consisted of all married students of the master's level of the Islamic Azad University, Bojnord branch. Among them, a sample of 346 people (173 women and 173 men) were selected using stratified random sampling. Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale (1988), Kiamarshi and Najarian's Perfectionism Questionnaire (1376), and Kiamarshi and Najarian's Psychological Toughness Questionnaire (1376) were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and stepwise regression statistical methods.
Findings: The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between perfectionism (especially positive perfectionism) and marital satisfaction, as well as between psychological toughness and marital satisfaction in married students. In addition, the results of the regression analysis showed that positive perfectionism and psychological toughness can significantly predict the marital satisfaction of married students.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research, improving the level of psychological toughness and strengthening the components of positive perfectionism in married students can lead to an increase in their marital satisfaction. It is recommended to pay attention to these variables in formulating educational programs and premarital counseling and couple therapy interventions.
