Abstract

Background and Aims: Women with substance abuse spouses face numerous economic, social and psychological problems that affect their mental health. The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of schema therapy and mindfulness therapy on domestic violence, self-efficacy and emotion regulation in women with substance abuse spouses. Methods: The research method is a quasi-experimental type, with a pre-test post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study was all women with substance abuse spouses in Tehran in 1404, which was selected using the available sampling method as a sample of 45 people and randomly divided into 3 groups of 15 people: schema therapy, mindfulness therapy and control. A questionnaire on domestic violence, self-efficacy and emotion regulation was used to collect data. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. Result: The results showed that schema therapy and mindfulness therapy had a significant effect on domestic violence, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation (p<0.05). The results also showed that the effect of schema therapy on domestic violence, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation was significantly greater than that of mindfulness therapy (p<0.05).

Conclusion: It can be said that schema therapy intervention is more effective in improving domestic violence, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation. Therefore, all mental health professionals, especially therapists, are advised to use schema therapy to improve the mental health of women with substance abuse spouses
