This study aimed to identify the components of emotional instability in adolescents with a history of suicidal crisis. This qualitative study employed a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 23 adolescents with a history of suicidal crisis residing in Tehran. Purposeful sampling was conducted until theoretical saturation was achieved. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis with NVivo software. The data analysis revealed three main themes: severe emotional fluctuations, social and interpersonal problems, and negative internal experiences. Participants reported rapid mood swings, emotional outbursts, sensitivity to environmental stimuli, social isolation, feelings of rejection, trust issues, emotional dependency, and self-harming thoughts. These components indicate the multidimensional complexity of emotional instability in this population. A precise understanding of the components of emotional instability in adolescents with a history of suicidal crisis can facilitate the development of effective therapeutic and preventive interventions and improve the mental health of this group.
