Objective: The present study aimed to develop and validate the Self-Rehabilitation Participation Motivation Questionnaire for individuals with substance use disorder in order to provide a native, valid, and reliable instrument for assessing this construct in research and clinical settings.
Methods: This study employed a descriptive-survey design. The statistical population consisted of specialists and therapists in the field of substance use disorder, as well as individuals attending substance use disorder clinics in Tehran who were undergoing rehabilitation. Participants were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling, and 200 individuals were included in the study. The research instrument was a researcher-made Self-Rehabilitation Participation Motivation Questionnaire developed based on eight main dimensions and 32 items. Content validity was assessed using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI). Construct validity was examined using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index, Bartlett’s test of sphericity, and confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient.
Results: The findings showed that the overall CVI of the questionnaire was 0.99, and the CVR values of all items were above the acceptable threshold. The overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.981, indicating excellent internal consistency. The KMO value was 0.931, and Bartlett’s test was statistically significant. The results of confirmatory factor analysis also supported the eight-dimensional structure of the questionnaire, and the model fit indices were within acceptable ranges.
Conclusion: The Self-Rehabilitation Participation Motivation Questionnaire demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used as a valid and reliable instrument for assessing motivation for participation in rehabilitation among individuals with substance use disorder in both research and clinical interventions.
